Soap Gallery, Opera Western Reserve and LitYoungstown are combining their resources for an art, music and literary Scottish-flavored “Highland Fling” on Friday October 13 at the gallery, 117 South Champion Street, in downtown Youngstown starting at 6 p.m. The evening will feature live artistic creation, live musical performances by Young Artists of OWR, poetry reading and a bagpiper in performance.
In advance of Opera Western Reserve’s November 10 production of Donizetti’s opera Lucia di Lammermoor, based on the novel by Sir Walter Scott, the evening brings together lovers of art, music and literature, developing new audiences for Soap’s monthly art exhibits, OWR’s annual live opera performances and Lit Youngstown’s literary arts projects.
Hors d’oeuvres with a Scottish tinge will be provided. A Scotch tasting will cap the evening; beer and wine will also be available at the cash bar.
Soloists will perform arias from Lucia, members of Lit Youngstown will
read classic and modern Scottish poetry and artists will create paintings that will be auctioned off at the completion of the event. Soap Gallery’s monthly show for October, “Shutter” featuring work by local photographers will be on display and for sale.
Profits from ticket sales will be shared by the arts organizations. Proceeds from bar sales will benefit OWR.
Support is provided by the season sponsors of OWR and the Ohio Arts Council.
